The Silent Dhol
The Silent Dhol is about the reality of forced marriages in India. I took the dhol, which usually signals joy, and turned it into a symbol of silence. A bride’s hand bursts from inside the drum, trapped behind the mehendi and bangles of tradition. While weddings look like festivals, this piece reveals the lack of consent many women face. Breaking through the drum is an act of resistance. It is a loud, unspoken cry for the freedom and autonomy that societal expectations often crush.
