Layers of Identity

4,500

I used newspaper, cardboard, paper clay, table tennis balls, hot glue, and plywood to show the layered complexity of identity in this piece. The base of the face is of paper clay, showing imperfections and raw textures that symbolize individuality and vulnerability. The table tennis balls, serving as the eyes, represent sight and introspection, somehow opening the piece to a personal experience by the viewer. Newspaper and cardboard frame the face in layers, suggesting fragments of experience connected and fragmented within one’s identity through time. The plywood ground gives stability to the composition-a balance between rawness and structure. This work encourages reflection on the multifaceted and the evolving nature of human expressions along with experiences. . This piece is also my take on Frida Kahlo’s sculpture.
